That’s when a self-care night comes in handy and gives you plenty of motivation for self care!

A self-care night is basically a way of scheduling time for yourself so that you know that you’re going to have some time dedicated completely for your own relaxation and care.

What is Self Care?

Self care is the act of taking time for yourself, to meet your needs and those of your mind, body, and spirit.

It’s about putting yourself first so that you can be the best version of yourself.

The more we take care of ourselves, the better rested we are and the more energy we have, and the more we can give back to others.

When we take care of ourselves, our minds are clearer, which allows us to be more productive at work or school.

Plus, when we’re happy with ourselves and what we’re doing in life, our moods are positive—and that helps everyone around us!

Why is Self Care Important?

Self care is important because it helps you to relax, recharge and feel better.

It’s also important for your mental and physical health, as well as your relationships with others.

If you don’t take time out of your day to focus on yourself, it can lead to anxiety or depression that negatively affects all aspects of your life as time goes on.

That includes various aspects of your life such as your work performance, relationships with family/friends/partners/colleagues and your overall health.

It’s important to make time for self care because it will help you to feel better and be more productive in other areas of your life!

What Are the Types of Self Care to Pay Attention to?

When it comes to self-care, there are various aspects we can look into.

Here are a few of the most common types you should pay attention to:

Physical Self Care: This is a form that involves doing things that help keep your body healthy. For example, it could be going for a walk or working out at the gym.

Mental/Emotional Self Care: This is another important aspect and includes things like taking time to read or meditate.

Social Self Care: This is a form that involves spending time with people who are important to us.

There are several more types of self care to know about, but what’s important is that you do not need to feel overwhelmed by all of them.

Take your time to address each of them in due course. Just make sure you do!

Why Start a Self Care Night Routine?

As a modern woman, it can be hard to find the time for yourself.

You’re busy working all day, then you come home to take care of your family, and then you’re exhausted by the time you get into bed at night.

It’s easy to forget that taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of everyone else.

It can be hard to maintain a regular self-care routine because it requires time—something that many people don’t have much of these days.

But if you’re struggling with stress or anxiety, then starting a self-care night routine is something that could really change things up for you!

Plus, the night is a great time to fully relax and let go of the day’s worries, making it the best time to focus on yourself.

When Do You Need a Self Care Night?

The answer is simple: when you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or just plain exhausted. Remember, you do not need to limit yourself to nighttime to spend time caring for yourself.

I personally do enjoy taking time to pamper myself at night as it’s quieter and there are fewer distractions around, plus my self care toolkit is right beside my bed!

Just treat whatever time you are doing this as a time to recharge yourself so that you can return to work refreshed and ready for the next challenge!

Self Care Night Checklist: Adopt It!

A self-care night doesn’t have to be complicated.

You can spend it doing literally anything that makes you feel good, whether that’s curling up on the couch with a glass of wine and watching your favorite TV show, listening to music while painting your nails, or reading a book in bed while sipping tea.

It’s important not only to take time out for yourself but also to be aware of what you’re participating in when engaging in those activities.

Spending an hour scrolling through Instagram doesn’t count as self care; nor does playing video games all day (sorry).

We all deserve better than that!

Instead, I would advise prioritizing spending time doing things that align with who we want to be: kinder versions of ourselves whom we love unconditionally just as they are—even if they don’t like themselves very much right now.

Here are a few ideas that you can add to your self care night checklist:

Take a Long Warm Bath

Sounds simple, right?

But there’s something magical about the act of taking a bath that brings you back to yourself and grounds you in your own skin.

It’s like recharging your batteries—you’re ready to go again after a good soak.

If you haven’t already, now is the time to get into the habit of taking baths regularly for self-care purposes: once per week at minimum, but more often if possible.

Don’t have access to a bathtub? Try using a foot bath instead. It does an excellent job at relieving stress and making you feel relaxed too.

Make Yourself Your Favorite Beverage

Installing yourself on the couch with your favorite beverage is an excellent way to begin your self-care night.

You could probably go with a glass of wine or champagne, but if you’re not a big drinker, try some hot tea or hot chocolate instead.

It has many of the same benefits as alcohol but none of the negative side effects—and it can taste good too!

Whether you choose to go for wine or beer, just make sure that whatever you’re drinking is something that makes you feel happy and relaxed.

Make sure to savor every sip and enjoy the sensation of being pampered by your beverage choice.

Do an at-home Spa Treatment

Think a spa is a luxury? You’re right!

But it does not mean it has to be expensive. You can grab lots of the material you need online which is significantly less than what you would pay at the spa.

Here are a few of my favorite rituals:

Use a foot mask when you’re watching your favorite show or movie. This will make you feel like you’re at the spa, but without the cost of getting there.

Do a steam facial. Fill a bowl with boiling water and let it cool slightly before using it as steam in your home. Add a few drops of essential oils, such as rose absolute oil for dry skin, lavender oil for oily skin, or tea tree oil for skin that is prone to acne. Leaning over the bowl while wearing a towel over your head to capture the steam, steam your face for a few minutes. After a steam treatment, you can use a purifying clay mask or just toner and moisturizer.

Try an aromatherapy shower. While baths are ideal for unwinding, you can still create a spa-like experience in your shower if you don’t have access to one or aren’t a big fan of taking baths. Add a few drops of your preferred essential oil to a damp flannel or sponge. Relaxing oils like lavender or uplifting oils like neroli are good choices. As you shower, lay this out on the floor in front of you to let the steam release the fragrances.

Give yourself a body scrub. Dead skin cells that have built up on the skin’s surface and result in dull, dry skin requires regular exfoliation. You can buy one off the shelf, but why not make your own? Combine some brown sugar and olive oil to make a healthy body scrub. Use about twice as much brown sugar as oil. Manuka honey, which is advantageous for both dry and acne-prone skin types, as well as some lemon or orange essential oil for an energizing smell, can also be included. In the shower, apply the scrub to the body in circular strokes, paying special attention to rough areas like the elbows.

Practice Meditation or Yoga

Meditation is a great way to focus on your breathing and calm your mind.

I personally use this app to have guided meditation as well as a bunch of other useful features.

Yoga can be a powerful way to stretch, relax, and de-stress before bedtime.

Try doing some light stretching in bed with a yoga video (or at least some guided meditation), and you’ll fall asleep feeling centered, focused—and ready for the next day!

Read a Book

Reading is an important and fun self care activity, because it helps you to relax and refocus your mind on something other than the stressors in your life.

The best part about reading? It’s free!

I personally recommend that you set aside at least 15-30 minutes of uninterrupted time to concentrate on your book.

Don’t rush yourself, and try to immerse yourself into the storyline.

This is also a way to practice mindfulness and be in the moment, all important ingredients in ensuring our personal well-being.

Switch Off Social Media

The world of social media is a fun place, but it’s also a place that can be overwhelming and distracting.

The problem is, if you’re not careful, all this information can lead to stress and anxiety—especially when you see the constant stream of posts from people who seem to be living their lives better than you.

And trust me, it creeps up on you unknowingly.

Before you know it, you start to get down on yourself when you see someone post about how amazing their life is or how much fun they’re having at their job while you’re stuck at home with your two-year-old because he won’t stop crying and you don’t know what else to do.

In addition to giving yourself some downtime, turning off social media can help you find new ways to relax and de-stress.

Our brains are wired for novelty and stimulation, so taking a break from this type of stimuli will allow your mind to have time without those distractions.

Watch a Tv Series or Movie

A self-care activity that’s fun, relaxing, and easy to do? Watch a TV series or movie!

Whether it’s a drama or comedy, the right show at the right time can be just what you need when you’re feeling stressed out.

And if you’re not sure where to start? There are plenty of resources online that can help you find the perfect show for your mood.

If you’re looking for some lighthearted fun, consider watching a comedy like Friends or The Office.

These shows will keep you laughing and smiling while taking your mind off the stressors of life.

Write in Your Journal or Blog

To write in your journal or blog is a great way to express yourself and your feelings.

You can write about your day, your thoughts, your goals, and even people you care about.

You can also use this time to get out some of the emotions that may have been bothering you during the day.

If something happened at work or school that made you upset, write about it!

It’s important to get those feelings out so they don’t build up inside of you until they make you feel sick or stressed out all the time.

Finally, writing can help keep track of what works (or doesn’t) as you progress through life; it gives you an opportunity to reflect on your accomplishments without having anyone else tell you otherwise.

Call a Loved One

This can be as simple as calling a close friend or family member, or even someone you just met for the first time today and want to get to know better.

But either way, having a conversation with someone you love and trust is an important part of self-care because it reminds you that there are people in your life who love and care about you, too.

Talking on the phone doesn’t have to be awkward—the person on the other end of the line might not even know that they’re helping take care of yourself!

All they have to do is answer when you call them up and talk about anything at all: what’s going on in their life right now, how their day was (or week or month), any plans they have going forward.

Anything goes as long as it makes both parties feel better after hanging up than before picking up!
